TALKING ABOUT GOOGLE AND SAN JOSE: A community town hall — organized by the South Bay Labor Council, Working Partnerships USA, Somos Mayfair, Silicon Valley De-Bug and others — to discuss the possible impacts of Google’s potential San Jose development is taking place Thursday at the Mexican Heritage Plaza. The town hall, said to be the first in a series, will consist of a “learn-in” — with the updates on plans to develop the Diridon Station area — along with breakout sessions and a larger discussion on a vision to address issues like affordable housing and access to jobs and education. it begins at 6 p.m. at 1700 Alum Rock Ave.

Funding for the awards came from Rotary Club members, friends of Leigh Weimers and the Knight Foundation Endowment of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. Weimers was a columnist for the Mercury News for four decades and a member of the Rotary for three decades. Rotary plans additional fundraising to make the awards an annual event. Geri Weimers attended the presentation along with their daughter Kristin and grandson Kellen. “I had not seen the artists until the day of the presentation, and I was absolutely blown away.
