This year the celebration will commemorate Ferragosto, an Italian holiday held each August that also coincides with the major Catholic feast of the Assumption of Mary. Feasting is always a major event at the festa as well, and this year is no exception. Visitors can sample a sizable menu of Italian favorites including pizza, spaghetti and meatballs, Italian sausage sandwiches, calamari and polenta. Italian sweets such as cannoli and sfingi–fried pastry balls rolled in powdered sugar–and an assortment of wine, beer and soft drinks are also available.
