The Spindrift Dance Company opened its doors in January of 2007. SDC is for: “serious dancers interested in continuing their training and passion for dance, and explores a variety of dance disciplines while maintaining dance technique.” The student base which is comprised mostly of Pacifica youth, also has dancers from Daly City, Moss Beach and San Francisco. With the company since its start, Monroe has served as Director of Dance since 2011. “Our dancers tend to be well-rounded performers,” Monroe said. “They have a passion for movement. They push themselves and as a result push me artistically to always raise the bar. I’ve watched this program grow from being just a handful of dancers who focused mainly on jazz and tap, to a four-level, diverse program. We have dancers who have gone on to major in dance in colleges with excellent programs. Every professional dance I have ever made has been inspired by and first set on these dancers. They are my laboratory. I’d be lost without them.”.
